EuroGeoSurveys joins Think2030 as new knowledge partner

Why did EuroGeoSurveys decide to join the Think2030 platform?

EuroGeoSurveys (EGS) joined the Think2030 platform to share its geoscientific expertise and support evidence-based policymaking for the European Green Deal and SDGs. EGS works to integrate geological insights into discussions on sustainable development, climate adaptation, and resource management.

What do you think will be EGS’ biggest contribution to the Think2030 platform and its activities?

EGS will be able to offer comprehensive geoscientific data and analyses that can inform evidence-based policy decisions. Through its EGDI Platform and Geological Service for Europe (GSEU) initiative, EGS can provide valuable insights on topics such as raw material supply security, geological hazard assessment, groundwater management, and sustainable land use. These areas are critical for implementing the European Green Deal, particularly in sectors like sustainable energy, biodiversity, and climate resilience. EGS can also help foster cross-border cooperation and data sharing among EU member states, ensuring that geological data is effectively used in achieving a sustainable Europe.

Why is it important that the Green Deal continues beyond 2024 and what should be its main priorities after the next EU elections?

The continuation of the European Green Deal is crucial to maintain the momentum in addressing climate goals and sustainability. Future priorities should include sustainable resource management, circular economy, and climate adaptation strategies supported by geoscientific evidence to meet 2050 climate neutrality targets.

What are you looking forward to most about being part of Think2030?

EGS looks forward to actively engaging with diverse stakeholders, including policy experts, civil society, and the private sector, to co-create solutions for a sustainable Europe. The platform provides a valuable opportunity for EGS to share its geoscientific knowledge and advocate for the role of geoscience in achieving the Green Deal objectives. Moreover, EGS is excited about the prospect of contributing to the development of forward-thinking policy recommendations and engaging in meaningful dialogues that will help shape Europe’s sustainable future.

Anything else to mention?

EGS highlights the need for science-based policy-making and cross-sector collaboration to achieve sustainable development. Through initiatives like the Geological Service for Europe, EGS is committed to supporting Think2030 in creating impactful, sustainable solutions for Europe.

As an open discussion platform, we are always happy to welcome new partners and organisations working towards a more sustainable Europe.
